In this storytelling-centered teaching, Leah weaves together three profound “scar stories” to explore how resurrection, resilience, and healing often show up bearing the marks of suffering. She begins with the familiar post-Easter story of Jesus inviting Thomas to touch his wounds, reminding us that Divine transformation doesn’t erase our pain, but honors it. From there, Leah traces the scarred journey of Pope Francis, once a young Jesuit who made leadership mistakes during Argentina’s Dirty War but emerged transformed by humility and repentance. Finally, she shares her own story from a recent post-evangelical gathering, where vulnerability, grace, and collective care opened the door to renewed strength. Through it all, she challenges us to resist Empire’s call to hide our wounds and instead live into the Kin-dom’s invitation to embody redemptive presence. Scar stories, she reminds us, are sacred stories.
